My Cheap Runabout/Project 340 GL :D

Hi, i thought id better come on here and tell u lot bout my 340 etc as i have been using the technical forums a lot in the last few days!

Well i got a G reg 340GL 1.4 for £150 a few months ago as a replacement for my written off mk2 golf, and well it had 11months MOT and few months tax and 87000 on the clock. now im starting to doubt the MOT for bieng a real one as ive found a few holes and problems but overall im really happy with the car. bit tatty but i like the car so much im planning to sort everything! i may be mad but hey!

when i got it there was only one problem which was the carb, replaced it with no probs, leaky tank (just been replaced), now the clutch has gone and im in the process of TRYING to replace it.
few other probs:
leaky rad, back exhaust section, rear brakes grind and handbrake barely works, small rust hole under driverside back door, leaky sump gasket, and a few tatty patches where someone has tried to cover some rust with the wrong color paint, (its a bluey color with darker blue patches lol) and thats about it.

But the baby 1.4 engine happily sits at 100mph and pushes to 110 just over and is very economical and smooth at any speed.

Sorry about the life story but just thought id give you as good a description as poss.
Planning to do it up and get a bit more power under the bonet sometime as i really like this car.

Sounds good - I'm in a similar situation with holes appearing at the moment!

As you've noticed, the B14 is sweet as nut...when it's working! Working on it isn't nice. Enjoy the car, and the site.
