WANTED : '89 340 GL 1.7 Speedo Cable

Post by oilnchain »

Alright guys,

The speedo stopped working today and upon examination it had corroded internally and snapped.

I'm certain somebody will have a spare lying around (used or new). Not wanting to pay too much as the car is off to the scrappy when the mot runs out in 10 weeks.

I can pay via paypal.

Please pm me or email - chris.timms100@ntlworld.com for a quick responce.

Thanks

One from any 300 will do, by the way :) Good luck....and don't scrap it! :D

Thanks for the advice regarding the speedo cable.

I'm afraid with the current price of 300's at rock bottom it simply isn't worth spending money on an mot. I can weigh the car in and buy a taxed and tested example for under £100. Plus of course I'll have a lot of parts

Then you might end up spending the same amount on other repairs which your old car didn't have.

Take it from me, it's false economy to change cars with these sort of motors. You'll also struggle to find a T&T'd example (thats worthwhile swapping a 300 that you know) for £100 even on ebay.

My current 340 cost £50 off ebay a few months back. I've done the same thing 5 times now with a saab, two escorts and an ax all costing under £100. To be honest I quite enjoy it - bargain motoring to the extreme. Best bit is if the car breaks you scrap it and get another. You've just got to ensure you have good rac/aa cover  .

I can see the appeal of bangernomics...you've just got to a) get lucky with one that isn't knackered b) not be fussy about getting an 'interesting' example, and c) not get attached to the damn things.

I fail on b) and definitely c)....and occasionally a) too :D

cheers

It's certainly a good way to get on the road cheaply - it pretty much is cheaper than the bus. I've been there myself, bought a 1994 Skoda Favorit for £120, swapped bits over from my old one then sold it for £375.. after the MOT had ran out... :D

However, I dont like the common 'throw-it-away' attitude when something becomes 'expensive' to fix in relation to the actual purchase price of the car.

Or maybe I'm just trying to justify why my car's in the bodyshop at the moment

If you want to throw the car away - don't bother with a speedo at all.

If you want to keep it then it costs 30 odd quid from volvo for a new one. You'll probably break a second hand while trying to get it off the donor
