Oh right. I get you but trying to convince dad is another matter. He'd swear black was white with me cos he doesnt like to think i might know more than him in some areas :)

I still quite happy with my little 340 GL though but dads Citroen ZX recently died and then mums BMW 525 started acting up so i need to find dad a replacement because, considering it my car im not allowed near it cos its the only car on the road

I've found age of the car is the biggest difference. Mk.2 300s (340 or 360) are a lot cheaper to insure than Mk.3s (even with my advanced 26 years, mk.3s cost about £250-£300 more, for inexplicable reasons). You could also try classic policies. Some classic insurers don't like younger drivers, but I had a 1977 Fiat X1/9 insured with Lancaster when I was 20 and I'm pretty sure Firebond do classic policies for younger drivers too. HIC and Adrian Flux might be worth a quote too. Try Endsleigh, if you haven't already. Nowadays they're expensive for me, but when I was under 20 they were always cheapest - they're especially good for students.

I paid £210 for my 360, but I'm happy to sell for £100 to someone on this forum to see it go to a good home. Otherwise I'll put it on eBay as it's on my parents' drive and I'm sure they want it gone quickly. It would be worth spending a little time and money sorting the things that need doing if you intended to keep the car for a while.

Cheers, Ed

Does freephone work from a phone box?

Lancaster do online quotes, as do Firebond, who will almost certainly call you back and give you a much better quote shortly after you've done the online business. Firebond can be a bit pushy (the underling will "pass you across" to the manager, who will come up with a "better deal") but for me they beat my cheapest quote and included all of the benefits like legal that they didn't originally offer when I said I'd take my business elsewhere.

I also forgot to mention that GLTs are significantly more expensive to insure than GLSs.

Adrian Flux are really good to deal with, I insure my VW LT35 camper with them which has all kinds of issues as its a converted van but they were really helpful - and great on price!

Na phone boxes charge for everything execpt emergancy calls.

I'll try Adrian flux now on callback and try liverpool victoria. It might be a case of buying max power and looking at the classifieds in the back cos it tends to be full of insurance for younger drivers

Insurance companies for younger drivers are usually, in a word, pants.

LV might be a good place to start, I'm insured with Chris Knott (with VOC discount) and they're suprisingly very competitive - might be worth a go even! The money saved could pay for your VOC membership and more.

Elephant are very cheap for young drivers...as long as you add a parent as a named driver. Took £200 off one quote trying that trick :)

cheers

Chris Knott weren't that good when I was trying to insure Kar in my first year, but better than Volvo's own brokered scheme... they wanted 8 grand...

Elephant, Norwich Union and Direct Line are usual best bets for a 17yr old on most things, 300's are expensive if you are the policy holder for your first 2 years, but then they drop quicker than nearly any other car.
