I think I will be too. I've a rusty diff end plate to replace as I'm feeling committed to the cause now on another car I've saved! Should have a nice steady interest in these I think Mac, good work!

Just a quick point on the s/s bolts. For this aplication they are the perfect solution and I would use them for this evry time.

For those who do not know never use s/s bolts or nuts on any suspension fixings or high stress areas. S/s bolts have a lower tensile strength - for suspension fixings 8.8 bolts MUST be used.

S/s bolts are well worth considering in a low stress capacity like this for the small exra cost can save a lot of hassle later on. :D

Cheers for that Dai, that makes a lot of sense, and was something that I'd considered a while ago, and forgot to ask the question.

I also forgot to ask my dude about getting the plates made up, are peeps still keen for this to happen?

UPDATE

Diff cover gaskets.

I have now received supplies of gasket material, s/s capscrews, and s/s washers but am waiting on copper drain/filler plug washers (my 1st.supplier 'blew out' - too much bread man). Talking to two others at present.
(I received my supply of gasket material within 20hrs (yes 20 hours) of placing my order - that was some service!!!)

I have yet to write the instruction/specs. sheet but I am hopefull that I can start 'production' within the next couple of weeks.

I will keep everyone posted.

Mac.

UPDATE

I am having great difficulty in sourcing quality (to BSEN -16-52) M18x24x1.5 Cu washers at low cost. I can get what we need ok but in minimum qtys of 100 off - but they run to about 65p each.
Several places on the net seem to offer cheaper (in some cases much cheaper). But - a trial order resulted in nothing arriving and several others have not bothered to respond to e-mails and phone messages have gone unanswered.

Present status and costings:-

Gasket material (I have enough for x50 diff cover gaskets) - in stock.
s/s Capscrews (M8x12) - in stock.
s/s washers (M8x16x1.5) - in stock.
Packing (double sideed card envelopes) - in stock.
Instruction/specs. sheet - on PC/to be printed.
Cu sealing washers (M18x24x1.5) - to be sourced.

At the moment it looks like costs will be as follows,

1 Gasket - £1.40
10 Capscrews - £1.50
10 s/s washers - £0.20
Packing - approx £1.00 (card envelopes are not cheap but don't want bent gaskets).
Postage - Depending on how 'thick' the package is either £0.65 or £1.27 (packed weight will be around 245g).

Before I invest another £60-£70(min qty.100 - I don't mind if the demand is there) I must ask if people would pay an extra £1.30 or so for copper sealing washers. This would bring the total cost of the gasket/seals/capscrew 'kit' to around the £7.00 mark. This would allow me to recover my material costs if a run of 50 kits sold. I would probably try some on the bay with a 'buy it now' price of around £10-£11 but as far as V3M goes I'm happy if I break even on outlay.

Before I buy the washers I like comments/suggestions etc.

Mac.

Sounds like a very fair price, and I'm sure a lot less than Volvo would charge. We're all quite aware that you're not making money out of all the time you're putting into this.

You should probably let our European friends on other V300 forums know about your work, I'm sure you'll get plenty of orders from over there too.

Very reasonable price, the gasket alone was around the £3 mark from Volvo IIRC. Ronnie - good point in contacting the other clubs!

I'd still be up for at least one at that price, perfectly fair mate! You certainly don't do things by halves, and if you feel it justifys finding some good quality copper sealing washers, then that's fine by me. It's not worth after all the effort you've put in, one part letting it down in anyway.

Good ideas about making the kits available on Ebay and informing the other clubs. Hopefully it will result in more cared for cars and some 300's being saved from being scrapped due to parts not being kept by Volvo. Also it may introduct people to V3M and more helpful advice etc.

If I had a leaky diff and saw the whole kit on ebay for a tenner I'd definately have bought it! In fact I may have to buy a set of bolts/washers of you Mac, as a couple of mine were starting to round off when I put the gasket on.

You could also put a V3M flyer in with it :)
