How about a section about special tools in the resource part
As the title says, where you have the blue leaflet section and green books etc etc, why not one with the special tool numbers and there uses.
I've been cataloging my Volvo Special Tools today.
I would assume a lot of the engine tools are on my 200/700 boards for the redblock engines, and possible the 400 boards if its renault related.
Here's the list i've got from my 300 blue peg board, if you know what the tool does please update the list, I don't have my green books for the 300 series anymore so i cant trawl through them to find out what they do like i'm slowly having to do with the others i have.

Awesome, good idea Chesh, I can't do it, but I from what I remember the hack I stuck onto the forum to allow the green book etc sections will take it.
What are your plans for the tools? Will you loan them to people?

No I sold him my 300 series green books, pettaw wrote:IIRC he's sold them all to Foggy.
He has expressed an interest in the tools so he will get first option should i decide to sell, and he has mentioned he'd lend them out.
I'd be up for lending them out if need be, but to be honest in all my years working on cars, i've never ever had to resort to using a special tool, allways managed to get round it someway or other.
Maybe it was the cost of the tools that put me off, or the need to finish the job that day.
Allthough i think some of the usefull tools are what look like presses or pullers custom made to make jobs very easy.
If i'd had the time i would photographed each tool, but with over 300tools it was a task enough just listing them out.
I am blessed with the luxury of being allowed to work at a volvo dealership. They have loads of racs all filled with special tools.. in all the days I've worked there, the only things I ever used from the special tool racks for bits that seemed to fit the bill to use as presses or punches.. nothing a few sockets couldnt have handled just as well. I daresay you dont need 95% of those special tools to get the job done.
Yeah, agreed, the only thing I've bothered with in the 6 years I've had 300's is the 1.7 cam tool (really must actually use it as opposed to leaving it on the shelf...)
When I get a bit of time spare, I'll have a look in the Russek stuff, as that has the special tool numbers listed. Wouldn't be for a week or so though I'm afraid
Thanks for putting those numbers up though mate, I agree, the pullers etc would save a lot of effort.

Your post has made me have a brainwave. I tried to get hold of the hinge pin tool, but no luck. They sent me the wrong part. However, it's pretty obvious now that to convert the (four digit) tool numbers listed in the green books to parts you can actually order, you just add "999" on the start.
They got me 9995037 (typo?!)......time to try ordering 9995937!
cheers

Hahaha, yeah, 999 is the special tool code. Not sure if Andy told me that, or I read it in Russek, but my parts blokey knew it, and got me the tool with me only telling him the four figure ref.
Surely your dealer must have known?!

put it this way, our parts dept in lincoln volvo seem to be very special. Like James, I have given them parts numbers, only to find the wrong part to turn up. Double check and they either mix the numbers around or on really special moments, order something where the part number is completely different.
BTW, I think Nessy knows it has something on the way for it - it cut out on the way to work this morning.

Result: Tool costs £50. I might try another dealer tomorrow to see if they're fleecing me...otherwise....anyone want to hire one?
I have access to one at the moment, but I see this being a very useful item!

Info so far (this is including others, not just Chesh's) These are from Russek, which will not mention a special tool unless there really isn't another way that doesn't count as a bodge, so not all will be here.
