Hey all, I have just joined the forum as I have bought a 1984 Volvo 360, with only 60k on the clock! goes like proverbial from a spade.
Plan
===
twin 45 webers
big exhaust
general clean up (new pipes and leads etc)
need a new water pump
blocks for the leaf springs, grinder to the front coil (boing)
problems
======
smelling a bit of petrol (has a lead conversion tube on the fuel line if that makes any difference)
a bit sticky going into 1st gear, i use 2nd to loose it up a bit first
also the above mentioned leaky water pump.
cant seem to get the original head unit out - haynes suggests 2 pins but i havent quite worked this out yet...
If anyone knows any good fixes for any of the above, or can sell me bits, I would greatly appreciate any info you can forward me
Newbee

I like your plan...although unless you're planning to stick a naughty cam in there, I'm not sure you'll top out a set of 40s. I'm making 140bhp with the horrible stock exhaust, a 270 degree (i.e. 'fast road' ish) cam, and 32mm chokes in my Solex 40s.
Is it an injection car? The petrol smell might be the relatively crappy stock fuel system
cheers

I would start with swamping the engine to a b230e. A Weber setup is a bit old fashion in my head, why not use a injected b230e who already has 136hp?
StuBowes where are you from? If you are from Scandinavia there are Volvo's everywhere and hence a lot of tuners
The Swedish 300 club has a group who is getting some 4-2-1 header custom made to the 360. Its going to cost like £180 or 2200sek. The makers are Timos motor and are well know for quality etc.. I'm getting one
And a lot of Swedish tuning companies sells cam`s, and you should find one who suits your driving style..
And you can get head porting for £70 as a member in the 300power club..

How does it go into reverse? Do you have to stuff it into 2nd and then straight into reverse or does it go straight in from neutral after you depress the clutch?
If it needs to be put into another gear its the clutch sticking and is a PITA because it means you have to dismantle the clutch to lubricate the splines. If not then its probably a worn gearbox, although changing the fluid may help.

The Webers will make more power, but the B230 will give a fatter powerband. Of course a B230 on 45s...Nikdev wrote:I would start with swamping the engine to a b230e. A Weber setup is a bit old fashion in my head, why not use a injected b230e who already has 136hp?
