Lucky the car in the water wasn't a Volvo 300! I think they've had enough of bad luck lately :(

It's a well known fact that Top Gear don't like 'em... I still have this memory of Jeremy Clarkson pressing the button and a poor innocent little 340 getting crushed sm93

He said something about this too:

Designed with a stupid gearbox (with a big rubber band inside)

But there aren't actually very many auto 340s on the road :o

"Designed with a stupid gearbox (with a big rubber band inside)"

Just a typical display of ignorance I`m afraid - A touch of the "I don`t understand it so I`ll just take the piss instead"

The problem is though that the crap this turd spouts is taken as gospel by the less than critical audience of his automotive wank mag of a programme.

Notice that he can`t actually fault the car - he just regurgitates a stereotypical view of "Volvo Drivers" as if this made the car itself a poor design.

I`ve got a beard, but so what - I`ve also got a couple of advanced driving tests under my belt too and am emphatically not unaware of other road users.

I was really shocked by how good the CVT was on the way to Gaydon too! I'd never actually seen one up close before. Ignore Top Gear, what a load of rubbish, which is either made up or superficial, stereotypical images they have. Pete

I`m chilled Redline!

I just think it`s a sad state of affairs when people make snap judgements about who people are and how they will behave based on something as completely superficial as the car they choose to drive.

Just look at the range of people that turned up at the meet - youngsters, tuning enthusiasts, older guys with families all with a range of different outlooks. Not a "beardy Volvo driver" in sight.

As for the suggestion that it is in any way normal to be "infuriated" by the mere sight of a 300....

Unfortunately Clarkson and his like in the media have a great deal of power when it comes to informing beliefs. Confirmation bias will do the rest. Any little mistake you make will be evidence to reinforce that belief - regardless of the motivation on your part, in the eyes of other drivers your errors (and we all make them) will be due to the fact that you are "oblivious to other road users" or because you feel that you "own the road"

Holding these beliefs makes it a bit more likely that decisions taken by some drivers on the road are less informed by logic and safety than by a need to "punish" .

Thats when people start to get hurt

I know , think of the abuse I got when I had my 2.5 24 valve 960 estate, "wheres your green wellys and your wax cotton jacket " etc .Mind you when I drove it I DID OWN THE ROAD. LOL

I have just had a thought , I could always get a new rear window sticker made up bearing the legend "CLARKSON KISS MY A"*E " by the way when I had the 960 I also had a nice big five berth caravan, Clarksons other favourite target. I really enjoyed driving a volvo all the way to Somerset and holding everyone up with my caravan at the same time LOL . maybe its me he's always on about

Everyone who feels that Mr Clarkson should get his come uppence, record Top Gear tonight (i.e., the repeat of yesterday), and watch the last 15mins. I have the entire program on my hard drive, will try to rip it out, it's brilliant!!!!
