The plastic mirror housing holds the motor at a certain angle. Maybe this angle is different, depending on whether the car is LHD or RHD. It could of course also be the two motors, which might be housed at different angles in the motor housing - I'm not sure.

onto the the broken glass for now, once I've removed the motor from the mirror housing.

It was completely smashed, apparently, and my mum didn't stop to pick up the bits unfortunately. So I'm missing the mirror backing part which the motor sticks into ...
