3 types im aware of
Quaiffe ATB, very soft, ideal for fast road, doent require rebuilds, not good for drifting
Gripper/other plate diff, require infrequent maintenance, lock better, tend to be more grabby than the atb, but ideal for drifting (what Id want)
Locker, like being able to change fro open to welded quickly, not suitable for road use, commonly found in 4x4s

Heres their site: http://www.powertrax.com/
and heres a guy who sells them on the bay: http://cgi.ebay.com/ebaymotors/ws/eBayI ... 71177&rd=1
Just noticed there are a couple of variations of the unit too, one may be useable. Give us a shout with anything you dig up as I am tempted to see whether one of these could be used for rallying.
Cheers
Jason

For gravel rallying either would work I suspect, you have enugh slip on a loose surface, and low speed manouvering noises wont bother you. They lock pretty much all the time, apart from round corners, whereas an LSD is open, till you spin one wheel from what I gather.
For a road car or tarmac rally car i reckon the synchro unit is better, but I dont know how harsh its action will be, it is a full locking differential (welded stylee) as opposed to a 45 or 60 percent locking clutch type.
What fitment do you need for a 360? I read earlier int he thread about the dana 30, but it wasnt a direct swap?

The trouble is, a 360 diff isn't a Dana 30....it's something smaller and pretty much unique, as far as we can tell. 240s use a Dana 30 (and I assume 7/900s do too). Certainly, a good LSD from the US is a fairly cheap item for a 240.
I have a contact who will custom make you (on a one-off basis) a very nice agressive clutch LSD - nothing like the ATB. We *might* be able to negotiate a further discount if we can get a group buy together. I'd probably be up for that. When I asked Quaife, it was going to be £600 a pop for an ATB if we ordered 10. Bastards.
I agree that a true locker is a bit brutal for road use...the transitition to having a solid axle usually results in a spin, unless you're a genius driver...I don't think it's wise to unleash such a device on the public.
cheers

Lockers work perfectly fine on the streets..just a lot of chatter on very tight corners. No need to spread misinformation if everyone is just guessing. Offcourse a true LSD is better, but for price and reliability, the lockers are just unbeatable.

Nopes, but 240LSDs have been fitted with minor modifications, so a locker will fit too. This has been discussed several times on the forums, including pictures of the mods needed.
You also have the dana30 true trac diffs, which are in essence a Torsen type differentials.
