The 'budget' Translated
I'm pleased The Freak didn't put VEL up in the main, though we all know cars first registered in 1982 should be FREE, it's the 10th aniversary of that stab in the back
However, I have translated certain points of Muppet Man's 'budget' into plain English
To provide certainty, the chancellor said he is writing to the governor of the Bank of England to keep a 2% target on inflation.
- Prices will continue to rise, but what 'defines' inflation will keep interest rates low and pay rises minimal
From 2009, major reform of the vehicle excise duty. For new cars from 2010, the lowest polluting cars will pay no road tax in the first year. Higher polluting cars will pay more.
- think about it! The main cause of pollution by cars is in the manufacture of cars. So, here's what we'll do, we'll convince everyone to throw away their old cars that produce a fraction more Co2 and rush out to buy these fantastic new disposable blandmobiles on credit on the premise they'll save £120 or therabouts... Ingenuis for the car and credit industry but makes no environmental sense at all.
There will be a capital fund of £12.5m to encourage more women entrepreneurs
- Surely this inverse sexism shouldn't be allowed, I thought we all worked on a level playing field? Females can get subsidies if they want to go into business, men can go whistle?
£26m to help make homes greener.
- does this mean we're all going to get free green paint? Are the makers of UPVC windows, doors, soffits, facias etc all going to produce a cheaper range in green?

Istead of me getting my house new heating system that really does help enviroment I should get new car that needs so much more parts that it is taxing double amount of enviroment in year than my old one.
Also in Finland all traffic (planes included) produces 13% of co2, farming does produce more, but humans + animals produce lot more when they breathe.
Industry, farming + energy producing are those that makes most of CO2 after breathing of living beings.
What about micro particles then?
They decrease global temperature, one big volcano eruption and temp goes down 3-5 degrees (C), that is because of those particles.
It is unfortunate that good thing is spoiled by few greedy bastards that uses enviroment as excuse for taxes and such.
While it is nice that we make air cleaner to breathe, it should be expressed as such, not to pull stories from magitician hat, what our goverments and certain small group has been doing...

SORRY FOR THE MISINFORMATION!
The Freak did put all 1973-2000 road tax up by £5, it just wasn't worth announcing.
It's time all the classic car fraternity declared war on this government and all who support it and I'm seriously considering never showing any of my 'non-classic' classics at a public show again. £100 + for 6 poxy months, plus the addistional risk of being criminalised for giving it a run around the block on a decent winters day is not what I call accepatable

Interesting that there was no mention of the 23 BILLION quid the British tax payer is going to have to pay out to keep Northern Rock afloat, or the £78.8 BILLION which the government, the nation, has to borrow to stay afloat...
And however much we've wasted on the Olympics... sigh
Pitchforks indeed. That's why the Americans refuse to give up their right to bear arms, they know that if they loose that, the government could do anything. We completely gave up most of our rights to do that in 1997, and it's gone downhill since then

Its all bull TBH,
Why should I have to pay more road tax on my older car that has already paid for it production emmisions and due to running on LPG is emmiting lower emmisions than you avaerage new family car!!
Road tax is a senseless tax at the moment.
Also we already have pay per mile its called fuel duty!

But what is big plan in this, if they would like to get more taxes, put more tax to petrol/diesel and case closed, but they like to find such troublesome methods, what they are after, in future government need to know where you drive and when you drive?
Maybe I'm just being paranoid, but I don't believe that what they tell is only reason why such methods are introduced.
My view is that today's anti car mentality shows there, idea is perhaps to register who drives those not needed trips and fine them because of that.
It is same in Finland, what they do in UK Finland will copy it ASAP and I am one that will fight against it and a lot

I really hate the car tax system because its doesn't account for any exceptions. i.e. I pay ~£400 a year to keep both my cars road legal and yet do less than 5000 miles between them. Whereas someone with one bigger diesel will pay less than half that and could be doing up to 25,000 miles a year (my uncle). So who is a) using the roads more, and b) polluting more
Its just really depressing that they are squeezing the car enthusiast and club motorsport fan
