My Vario

Post by Ian Mac » 28 Mar 2009 09:47 pm

I thought I'd try and post some pics of my Vario now that its up and running with new clutch and belts. I think it looks pretty good apart from the back bumper and front panel.

Very smart indeed! What's wrong with the back bumper and front panel?

Thanks for your comments both. The rear bumper is bent in the middle and the front panel is rusty on the lower edge, nothing major but needs sorting to make it a really nice car. A weekends work should see it right..

can spot a slight ripple in the chrome bumper strip at the back, but i think youd have to be squinting VERY hard to spot the fron rust dude. :D

Oh yes, now I see it (just). My rear bumper has a dent just like that from the previous owner - I wasn't going to do anything about it until someone scraped the RH corner too. Now it just looks tatty, I've got a (brand) new bumper now and a new chrome strip, which just need fitting.

I may have a spare new piece of trim one when I've finished ...

Tom

EDIT: "J-reg": isn't that one of the very last 300's? Registered 'late 91 - early '92?

It is indeed! Though the way cars are registered here can be a bit special, there is a J plate'd car that lives on my road with an earlier chassis number than my late H plate.

It's the same here, a car can be manufactured in 1991, but the date in the cars' papers is the "first date of registration". So if a car has been hanging around unsold for a long time it may say 1992 in the papers.

Very nice, late GL's are a good choice for a daily driver - just enough creature comforts still!

Hey, I'd put up without electric windows, plush interior and central locking for a Mk1 like yours ;)

I read yesterday, Mk1s got heated seats as standard in the UK (and Nordic) from 1979. Not fair!

The car was registered in the UK on 1st August 1991 and had one registered keeper until I bought it this January.

How about some pics of the Trabi Tom?
