guys.
My cambelts somehow slipped off on my 16v!
started up fine, then conked out, so fired up again conked out, then starter motor dsid its grinding out again, so went to check the starter motor plug and seen the cambelt hanging seems its come of the oil pump! apart from a head strip to check all me valves and resetting the block to TDC to try and re apply the cam belt, what more can i do?
Im trying to put the belt back on at the moment and as usual its a pain in the arse to get it on - any tips?
any ideas why it would have come off?
it came back monday from MOT with no problems and hasnt moved or fired up since it got home monday night! i didnt hit anything on the way home othewrwise it would have come off then!

The only real reason it could of come off mate is if the pulleys are damaged and or you fitted the tensioner incorrectly. out of interest what belt are you running on that thing?

belt make i will find the pictures. but its the one sold by KTEC, which i complained about as they were suposed to be selling geuine renautl but they dont.
cambelt s been on the car since september ish last year, and has been on there fine untill now :S
if it was somethign to do with mondays drive home i would have been stoped dead in my tracks. so unless it came of when i got home and parked up, or today when ive tried firing her up. im not sure. majorly i have a head rebuild on the cards i think. as the pulleys are like so:
Crank : 1pm
exhaust 5pm
inlet 6pm
so i think its come of as i parked, and when it fired up twice this morning it was possibly firing on 1 considering the bottom end effectively controls everything.
so im looking at bent valves i think:( but i wont know untill i get the belt back on and turn her by hand, as i'd rather not take the head of unless i really have to!

valves cost:
inlet: £4.69+vat
exhaust: £5.25+vat
from my suppliers.
my last head rebuild cost £120. so they wont charge much to change valves with any luck, bottom end should be fine still.
then a new gasket set and bolt set will be about £30. so im under £200 still really to rebuild, but figuring out why the belt came of in the first place would be good!
hopefully havent bent valves but it can wait right now, more important things to look at, im gonna get it trailor up to my unit end of the month when i move in to it. and go from there.

woooooop!
done as adam suggested tonight.
take the crank backwards to 9pm so all the pistons are level, then reset the cams, well instead of that, i rotated both sides a couple of times each and well no problems whats so ever all turn as tight and with the good old reasuring clunk they used to make as you rotate the lobes of the lifters.
crank turns freely as well, belt should be back on tomorrow and then i can wait for finances to improve and re do all the pipe work, ive got some 8mm copper pipe to do the brake vaccum as a hardline now instead of the cheap crappy vaccum hose i got sent.
so woop, looks like its costing me all of £10 to get my mate out to get the cambelt back on with me
so fingers crossed
