I was at the scrappy today with a 400TD, but the bonnet cable was broke and I didn't have time to try lifting the lid, but would the 400TD engine not bolt in? Iirc its the same block, and actually has some power, just manifolds to sort out.

hi Chris

I've got a 440 TD. would you like some under bonnet shots to ponder over?

I can add them to this post for you

Andy is pretty much right, as I understand it, the Turbo Diesel Nissan engine went in, was run for a couple of years at least, then someone decided to have a play and never put it all back together completely. I've then never had the time to mess about with it, the project ideas have changed dramatically. It wouldn't start the last time we had a quick tinker, possibly no diesel getting through, or water in the tank.

A 400 TD engine is a good lump, which has been talked about in the past on here. It'd be just as quick, if not quicker with a lot more torque than a 360 GLT. It's have a lot of low down grunt.

Yeah, I was gonna put a 2.0 laguna engine in Fake for rallying, but seeing the price of fuel on the up again, and the fact I'm a cheap skate, I've been tempted by the TD lately, although that puts her out of a lot of the rally's entry requirements :(

400 series TD unit (also in various Renaults, I'm sure) has gotta be the way forward. Just start stockpiling prop shafts, in case...

cheers

hey Chris

sorry, you lost me... whats "Hopefully, it's a nadgers norf"

erm.. its in yorkshire maybe?

I agree with James. the 1.9 is similar to the 1.7 so swap should be doable.

I was tempted to do this myself but then couldnt decide which 340 to donate to the cause. As 340s body parts are so easy to get (well less easy) and due to living in manchester I decided to get a younger and less vulnerable 440 TD.

I wish I lived in the country!!!
