Thanks for the comments about my new GLT, I go to Germany tomorrow and I'll buy it sm4

Little problem: it's a 360 GLT with catalysator. Someone has that too? Is there a real difference with a GLT without catalysator?? (performances... )Is it in fact really a good thing to have that? sm1

cat takes (as far as i remember) about 5-10% of the power off the car. its crap, and a waste of money. must be a very late car thou. whats the milage on it?

5-10% :( Pfff I don't really like that.

It's not a late model (1987), environmental rules in Germany are strict.

87 is fairly late.. for a glt anyways.

you can always take it off, depending on the laws where you are..

accoding to my handy '87 manual..

108hp for a b200 f or ea, 114 for a ee

9nm less torque too.

If it were me.. bye bye Cat... I was going to get a cat replacement pipe made up for my Favorit between MOTs and weld a straight section of pipe in place of the centre box to get it around the 80bhp mark, not bad for a 1.3...

But yeah it depends on the restrictions in your country - I know cars after 1992 here should have a cat, but its not 100% enforced. I know people who have removed cats and still get past emissions at MOT time (and that was with altered fuelling).

One good thing though - the B200F has an O2 sensor already = better for tuning. I'll bet it gives a more accurate mixture too.

I bet the loss of power isn't just due to the restriction from the cat. They normally change other things too...it quite possibly has a lesser cam, for example.

cheers

Saw an article on brickboard.com saying that the B200F has the M cam? Could this be right.. seems to think it's more of a high end cam and less torquey compared to the A cam.

Pffffffffff I'm sad now...

What can I do?

I've seen now it's a Bosh LU jetronic (not LE) when there's a catalysator but I didn't know that about the different cam... :( I thought it was the same on the B200E and B200F! Is it really a good idea to buy it..................... :( :( :( I'm lost! If I have with that GLT the same power as a B200K, I don't really want to buy it... What about the fuel consumption? Better on the B200F than on the B200E?

Ignore the engine...

Get the car if the bodywork is good! Surely that is the main concern. If you're not happy with the performance of it, it's a damn good excuse to stick a 2.3 turbo in it. I didn't think id ever hear Aymat being indecisive about buyng a GLT  .

Indeed.....if it's otherwise sound, I'd not worry about it. These things can soon be uprated, especially with the Foggmeister to advise you, and with that O2 sensor to help with the tuning.

The B200F you read about is probably the B200F from a 940.
The B200E in the 740 isn't the same as in the 360 - V cam (hotter), but mechanical K-Jet fuel injection. 122bhp instead of 115.

Ok, thanks for the replies.

But what about the fuel consumption? Better on the B200F than on the B200E? Normaly it must be so or not?

Yeah I know...  But I'll make 350 km to see and buy the car in Germany (700 with the return included ) and I don't want to be disapointed...

Probably better MPG. I'd buy it...its probably a better engine than the B200E. More scope for simple upgrades.
