Absolutely and totally unhealthy, I know :-)

In my own very humble opinion:
modern stereos look flippin awful in a 1980s V300 dash. Desecration! ;-)
cutting holes in early interior panels (wacky reds and greens in Mk2s for example) or in any Mk1 door cards is ... a pity.

Very true... since you're the V300 expert in OEM stereos...

What kinda stereos could you get in the earlier Mk2's with the Mk1 dash? Our GL's always had the MW/LW push button stereo's but I believe you could get a tape player too, which I think were also fitted to similarly aged 200's

New thread?

No way ;-) "antiekeradio" is the man to ask about those ;-) Check this post:

That's it, V200 radios from a similar vintage will fit, the type which was fitted low down in the dashboard in front of the gearlever. Later V200 radios, fitted high up in the dash won't, the facia plate has a curve on the left (or the right, depending whether the car is LHD or RHD).

Speaking of facia plates - those are the model-specific bits, not the radio itself ...

Later OEM V300 radios are the same as OEM V700 ones, although the wiring in the "block" type connectors can be different.

In the Mk1 I originally had one of these:

but have now deleted the tape player (which I never use anyway) and gone for the more "traditional" look ;-)

Tape players were available right from the beginning, in '76 you could get 8-track in your 343 too ...

Thanks Tom... that top Executive one that antiekeradio posted about is very cool!

The one you now have in your 343 was the one I was thinking, had that in my 343 too and to be honest it didn't even sound that bad! :D

The pic is actually from atroch's yellow Mk1, but it's the same one as in my car ...

TBH, when I was 17 the radio was the most important part of the car. But when you pass 30, your priorities change somewhat ;-)

Will ANY modern Cd / Cassette radio fit in the slot the old radio went in? Will the eletrical conections and stuff be the same - it's just I've seen a clarion radio cd that's style would fit the Volvo?

If its just got an origonal volvo radio, youll need a:

and probably an:

depending on your new head unit size.

Olga, post a piccy of your radio. If it's the standard late one, you can just file a mm all round the old facia to fit a standard ISO and it looks even more stock.
