S2000 engine/box & 200sx bits in a 340

Post by L14MNP »

A guy on another car forum commented on my 360 buld thread and mentioned he and a mate are building quite a machine. He currently has Peugeot 309 Thundersaloon and has built a grp4 mk2 Escort in the past, so his mates project will be in good hands!

"Cool project, a mate of mine has one with a Clio lump in it on nitrous, goes really well !

I convinced him a while back to do something a little different so were currently fitting a Honda S2000 engine in another 340 but using the Honda 6 speed and a complete rear subframe out of a Nissan 200sx as well as the front uprights and coilovers for a S13.

Looking at the work yours needs we were lucky as we found a 1 owner from new 340 and everything has come off without a problem so far, certainly going to be a wolf in sheeps clothing once done though !

Keep at it, I'll point my mate in the direction of this thread"

Needless to say, I told them to get signed up on here with it! An F20 Honda lump and drivetrain would be great!
I also let him know (I reckon he's already aware though) that if their car is a 1.7 then the conversion parts, prop etc will sell on.

Dunno what he means about the condition of mine. I thought it was pretty decent!

Here's hoping for them to join up or at the very least, some build pics.
If I get anything posted on my thread I will stick them up here.

What do we reckon then, good conversion? I think it goes without saying that this will be a drift car.

AWESOME!!! its good to see that these cars are starting to get proper attention from "tuners" although at this rate it sounds like by the time i have the money to do my s14 running gear+sr20det conversion(read 2-3 years) it wont be a unique idea anymore haha
got a link to a thread or anything??

A very interesting conversion, not cheap parts either so definatly got a lot of comitment. I think these 300 cars are part of a special collection, like the one that had an impreza chassis.

I hate to be critical but the thing about these sort of modded cars is that they remove what I think is the most defining characteristic of a 340/360:

The gear box should be at the back!

I would be more impressed to see this drivetrain layout maintained by a conversion, but thats just me, obviously Im still interested to see how this car turns out.

I totally agree in the box on the back. Doesn't have to be same box though:-b

The corvette running gear was a pretty inspired choice I must say, oh and my name is also Adam.

Best transaxle on a budget then?

My guess is a whole Porsche 944 donor, what are the other options?

however, Im sure this is a thread jack and I dont want to be known as some sort of *&^$(%)*^* on here.

Maybe the shape and light weight of the modern S2000 gear means the weight distro will be surrprisingly close to 50-50?

Or is that yet another awsesome massive conversion.

Yep. It's from an N14 Sunny/Pulsar GTiR. They aren't the same block as the longitudinally mounted RWD DET's found in S-Body's. I wonder what he is planning.

Needs moar B230 turbo ;)

I mean all engine swaps are awesome, but I think people forget that one of the most legendary turbo engines ever made(*) bolts right into a 360...

*Bold assertion alert
