new car ideas opinions

Post by pyro » 09 Feb 2011 12:23 pm

So looking at getting me a new car, peugeot has done well but ive a feeling somthing is about to go bang!

Im debating between a v70 diseasel and a disco commercial (more useful for my line of work)

disco commercial
http://cgi.ebay.co.uk/1997-LAND-ROVER-D ... 45f893933f

and im sure you know what a v70 looks like!

IM gona be doing long journeys and probably lots of rugged work. just wondered what people thought of things in the list down/up there!

Unfortunatly needs to be smart and reliable and economical (360 only fits 2 of those!)

Hmm, if you can get 4 'new' 360 with price of one regular service to Disco, then I'm not too sure about that economical factor, it really is not easy on fuel with mass of 2 tons or so?

If you have tendency to enjoy some S&M stuff, then 90 is good for long joyrneys, but even modern tractors are more comfortable.

Whale 70 is perhaps nice for long road journeys, but you don't go off road with one, rural roads maybe XC70?

But depends a bit what you really need and what you really like.

Im leaning towards the disco commercial. as its got car comforts, and offroadable! diesel isnt "too" bad but a darn sight better than a v8! and itll return 45mpg on a run loaded or unloaded. 35~ combined.

id like an v70xc but cant afford anything like that!

Hmm, I thought XC70 is roughly similar prices compared to Discovery? ~8000 euros that is, but maybe you have some unfair pricing on Landy there, here everything other than mainstream is expensive

I'm just an electrician but you must be a magician.

Factory figures show 32 mpg but you got 45 towing a two ton trailer.

Now it is commonly known when manufacturers obtain their figures it is under optimum conditions ie spare tyre dumped, billiard smooth level tarmac, low resistance tyres used,2 gall fuel max etc,etc...

My BIL has a 10 plate Freelander with all that stop start technology etc to up figures and he reckoned the book stated 42 on a run but he hasn't bettered 40 driving like a tart.

I suggest your figures are wrong.

Did you do Maths at school??

There ain't 8 litres in a gallon.

Still all that said I recommend you buy a Disco just don't post any figures on here in case I PMSL sm4

I know they do all these tests in ideal conditions but thats what it came back as! online calculator-majig
IIRC 4.5L to a gallon?

The cost of a good 90 is going up radically this past year or so, gona be hard to get a good one with what i expect to get for the pug and volvo combined.

Disco gets my vote. All things to all men I suppose.
Disco.

Not met my missus then. She hated mine :)

2nd choice would be a V70, and I'd run like hell from a 90 unless you have a real need for a mud-plugger!

All goes down to whats out there and the most affordable....
