Sorry this ain't Volvo related lads but I couldn't really help but share this with you..some dolt has abandoned this BMW 600 in a yard near my house. I know for a fact it's abandoned because it's been there like 10 days. And the door's unlocked, and the window's open...
I'm so bothered by this because they're pretty damn rare in this day and age. Either someone stole it, or someone doesn't know a potential classic when they see one..

Good job, then, that I used a plank of wood to open the door, LOL

To be honest, if the police tow it, it'll just be crushed anyway

In herer if police tows car away and owner can't be found they sell car in auction. Before that car is kept in secure place and if there is damage during parking in police's garage, they will pay repairs. Sometimes there is little arquing needed but usually works really well.
Maybe in UK there is so many abandoned cars that they can't do that?
There's no way that would be crushed in Australia.
I'm not an economist, but I have my theory why cars depreciate a lot faster in the Uk than here. Your fuel costs twice as much, this annual MOT or whatever it is sounds like a pain in the neck and perhaps your annual registration/insurance is more expensive.
So if it costs a lot of money and is a hassle to just have a car sitting doing nothing then people don't worry with old bombs, you may as well spend money on a newer car.
I saw a post saying top price for a 300 series is 300 pounds, here just about anything that goes and is reasonable condition is worth that much, especially with a roadworthy certificate (only required when transferring ownership).
I knew some Canadians who were impressed about seeing so many 30 or 40 year old cars in australia, they just rust away in Canada.
Every year we pay tax from owning a car, these old cars it is around 100euros and those newer cars was around 300euros, if I don't remember horribly wrong. Then we pay insurance, around 500euros per year, without discount, more years without accidents and cheaper it gets. Then we have MOT that costs around 50 euros every year.
