I would have thought it a Ducellier, but I haven't looked anything up...

edit: Having just looked up the Intermotor online catalogue, they give 5 different part numbers and three different makes. Delco / Ducellier / SEV Marchal.

What does the dizzy look like, if you can see if there is anything stamped on the body? (Or post a picture) then I could tell from the pic (Never seen a Delco, but I know a Ducellier and a SEV from ten paces.)

There are certainly different 1.4 340 dizzy caps, pre and post renix being the obvious one. As to whether there are more on tope of that, I've never found it, anything 1989 should be correct but then again how many times do factors get the wrong dates on parts...

A Renix cap has two holes to take the screws to hold it down?

hmmm that complicates things.... the distributor itself says ducciler on it but the dizzy cap currently fitted is held in place with 2 screws? :S

Sorry, when I said Renix, I meant a car with a Renix electronic ignition system, which has a Ducellier cap.

as opposed to the old points set up which has a clip-on cap:

those are the 2 main different ones;
all B14's have a Ducellier system, and in total there are 3 different sets of dizzy/arm

1 set for all the pointed models (and the clipped system, doesn't matter wich brand you take; it'll all fit)
1 set for all the renixed models; (screwed system) B14.3S,B14.4E and B14.4S; with Weber 32Dir carb; this has a 10mm axle for the rotor arm
1 set for the B14.3E engine with; (screwed system) Solex single barrel carb, this has a 8mm axle for the rotor arm.

main rule is to allways buy your dizzy and rotor arm from the same brand/manufacturer (bosch, beru etc) as the height of the contacts in the dizzy varies slightly between manufacturers

There is a difference among the early B14 pointed systems too, my '80 343 has an AC Delco distributor, which also has a screw-on dizzy cap.

now that you say so i have heard of that before, but the green books specify only Ducellier system distributors though. hmm, gonna look a little deeper into it, there must be something you can tell by what's on the engine/car rather than looking at the dizzy

The green books mention AC Delco distributors in the tech specs section, B14.1E engines got them from CH 488547-516644. Also the parts catalogue lists different parts for the AC Delco distributor: points, dizzy cap (screw-on), rotor, capacitor and vacuum control unit are different.

My theory is it took up more space, making it harder to remove two of the spark plugs, so they dropped it fairly quickly ... It'd be good to see two B14.1E engines next to each other, to compare the differences.

See also these posts (there was also an SEV Marchal distributor)
