Insurance.... yes AGAIN - Sorted :)
Hi Everyone.
I have such a headache over insurance... This post is about the different between 1.4/1.7 and 2.0...
Footjob James won't quote me for my 360 2.0 due to it being higher than a group 4/5?
Would they be likely to sort me out if I sold it and bought a 1.4/1.7?
I really don't want to sell my 360 as I have put so so much into it and to be honest it owes me a lot more than I would ever be able to get for it.
Once again any help would be appreciated.
Cheers,
Matt.

Might just be your age and the length of time youve had the licence man. They might not touch you at all.
Im paying about £150 fully comp on the 84 B14. Licence for 2 years, 34 years old.

I shall give them a ring in the morning with your numberplate and see if I can get a quote out of interest. Fair point about age and license though - although other people on here such as Valman have managed to get insurance through them with a new license and at 17! (whereas im 18).
That is a damn good price really mate! My Dad still pays around £300 at nearly 51years old on a 1.6 diesel focus... mad!
I shall drop you a pm mate
Matt.
Re: Insurance.... yes AGAIN
I had a go sticking them through go compare a while ago, for me, my findings are as follows:
my GLT 2.0 = £1350
random 1.7 = £1260
VND's vario 1.4 he had =£1150
a 1.4 peugeot 206 = 2100!!!!!
Not an awful lot of difference, (i got my insurance cheaper than 1350 btw)
Have you thourght about doing the pass plus thing? could probably get it done in a week is like 3x 2hour lessons. To tell the truth i didn't learn much but i can get you 40% or something off first 2 years.
After you've had your licence over 6 month's it get better, a year better still. Try you're hardest to keep that 360 though, its a minter!

Re: Insurance.... yes AGAIN
As I said mate, getting rid of the 360 would be a last resort option.
As far as the Pass Plus goes - they are apparently fazing it out; my driving instructor actually backed this up. So I am not really prepared to pay the price of a Pass Plus just in case it makes no difference.
Cheers for the figures and ideas though!

Re: Insurance.... yes AGAIN
try Lancaster insurance, bit dearer but not much and pretty sure you can have group 7+ on there.
Re: Insurance.... yes AGAIN
I pay £382 for my 360, I am 20, have had my liscence 2 years but have 3 years no claims. Try aviva. These things are dirt cheap to insure. Should easily be able to find a half decent quote

Re: Insurance.... yes AGAIN
Sky Insurance? They gave me a cracking deal on an imported Mx5 - but then again imports are their speciality but they're very understanding and could be your best bet

Re: Insurance.... yes AGAIN
Cheers for that Steve - my good friend has just suggested them actually! As she has both of her Subaru Legacy (twin turbo) imports insured through them for a good price.SteveP wrote:Sky Insurance? I will add them to my list of companies to try
Thanks again.
Re: Insurance.... yes AGAIN
Are you ringing these companies or using bloodyexpensivecomparisonwebsite.com?
Phone quotes are always cheaper than internet quotes. Are you declaring the 440 alloys? I imagine that will be making the quote sky high, you need a super stock car when you just passed. The 2.0 isn't going to be helping, I found my 1.4 was much cheaper until I had 2 years driving down and got my first GLT.
As to whether a car is cheaper for you, in your postcode, this week, the only way to find out is ring and talk to the person on the other end of the phone. Ring specialist companies, say you are part of an owners club if you can (V3M counts for lots of companies, else join the VOC) Just spend constant time on the phone, getting reasonable insurance at your age isn't a given right, you have to put the time in.

Re: Insurance.... yes AGAIN
Try Sureterm Direct - I pay £150 a year with them for my 360 2.0. I am 41 though.......

7.52pm: I'm jealous. I really wish that I was a) a Fulham fan; and b) at Craven Cottage. What a night for them. The players are still on the pitch, loving it.
