Blueline now Running and Driveable!!!

Hi for those of you that remember my other thread introducing my blueline, you will remember that it was in a sorry state and a non runner. Well She runs!!!!
Not an easy task tho as the clutch was currently a foot away from the bell housing with the timing belt cover leaning on the radiator!!
The previous owner had tried to take the engine out to change the clutch, leaving the prop and bell housing in the normal positions. They managed to get the engine out, but could not get it bavk in, so this is the condition i had the car in.
The car had been stood since December at the latest with the bonnet open and no filter box on.
sm38
Basically the first thing to do was to get the engine out from the car. Once that was done, the prop was removed along with the bell housing. Then the engine lowered back into place and clutch re alligned and de rusted!!! (Dont ask)
Next the reassembly of a box of bits that i didnt even take of began!! Along with a washing up bowl full of the relavent nuts, bolts & clips etc. The car had to be reassembled before we knew if it was worth carrying on!!
Once the engine was in, it would turn over, using a bar on the bottom pulley. However once removing the plugs to change them i noticed that the bores were full of water!!! sm44 So i managed to pump the water out, and also removed the carb to find and endless amount of leaves and water and RUST!!! sm45 So the carb was unassembled and de rusted.
We needed to use only the parts we had to get the car going o see what needed to be done to it.
Amazingly once everything was coupled up she started!!! i couldn't believe it, the first time i turned the key, the solenoid on the starter didnt free so the starter didnt engage the flywheel, so a small tap later i turned the key and she started!!! sm69 Once altering the idle speed, i turned her off and thought i would try my luck, She started first turn and idled straight away!!! sm89 I left her running, there were no oil leaks, no water leaks (Amazingly) and everything runs sweet, she even sounds good!!! Even the clutch is freeing and the car has been DRIVEN!!! sm95
My Grandad who has been working on Volvo's for around 45 years and 300's since they came out couldn't believe it!!
Shows what type of stick these cars can be put through!!!
Cheers Adam

Yeah, your pretty lucky with the expertise, workshop space and tools available to you! Excellent stuff mate, it is quite incredible. Like the 2.0 litre engine Andy used as a short term replacement, although standing for a long time, it ran and served its purpose quite well. What's the bodywork like on it? Hopefully there's not too much rust, and you've got a good shell and now a running engine too.

The actual chassis and all running gear is in better nick than on the other car, however it needs a tailgate, two front doors and a bonnet!!! I have all of those panels, believe iot or not they all fit in the back of a 300!!! However i damaged the bonnet bringing it home so another one will be sourced!!! Other than that shes very tidy so fingers crossed!!! Oh it needs one alloy aswell but i have that too!!!
Yeh my grandad has a lot of patience with me and my cars!!!!

good stuff, keep your fingers crossed no worn bearings show up once the internal rusty bits have cleaned themselves up a bit.

Washed the car the other day just thought i would post the pic!!! Bear in mind this is from just a wash, no polish or anything and this is with all original panels!!! I think she is looking fairly healthy now to say the least!!! Aiming to have her somewhere near finished in the next few months!!!

Well guys, i have been busy!!! I decided to put a standard radio back in the blueline and also install some genuine pillar speakers i had kicking around!! Any way to thread the speaker cable to the rear of the car, i did the same as i did in the other car, which is run it through some holes in the seat mounts next to the transmission tunnel and as i had to strip half the trim out to do this i decided to make a job of it!!!
And so the fun began!!! I stripped everything from the inside excluding the dash, and all plastic trim was scrubbed clean and all carpets seats etc were hoovered and valeted!!! And once put back together she looks lovely!!!
Pics to follow!!!
