I want to replace my gear knob, how to remove it?

Hi guys,

I've recently bought 1988 Volvo 360, a pretty cool one although the gear knob looks like something has been chewing on it so I'd like to replace it but I'm not sure on how to remove it, I wasn't sure if it's just on a thread but I didn't want to try and twist it and break it and have no knob at all.

So yeah, any help on how to pull my knob off would be great.

Haha, ok I'll give that a go, what about putting the new one on as I'll probable change it for something a bit better looking than the standard option.
