Fuel consumption

Can anyone give me a realistic idea of fuel consumption in a 340 vario, especially about town. I need to know whether it'll be worth my while getting one for economy around town compared to my T-5 (which tends to get 20mpg on short runs if I'm lucky). I need to be able to offset £150 of insurance, £110 road tax, £50 MOT and save a bit more money over the course of a year to make it worth my while... so basically I need to be able to save about £400 on petrol over about 5000 miles. I think I need to be getting better than 30mpg for it to save me money... is this likely?

30 MPG is about 10Km/L.

That is possible IF the engine and more important the EMVK and the Vario are in perfect working order.

You should drive like an elderly, no like a dead person to acieve this.
Vario´s are supposed to pull up full throttle to get going!

Cars with variomativ need to be driven with an analog foot.

Mine does just under 30mpg with a bit of eratic driving here and there... oh it is fun to get the thing drifting LOL.

Well, I'm intending to run a Vario as the 'cheap' run around, compared to my GLT, but in all honesty I can't see me saving much, if anything, as with insurance, tax etc and the minimal difference. I just want to get it on the road really and drive a vario! The man to ask is Will (Will01908) but he seems to have been quite quiet on here lately, hope he's alright.

Regarding getting decent fuel consumption on short urban journeys, Diesel and EFI with Lambda are your friends. 300s do give good fuel economy (my 360 used to return 45mpg average on a 70mph motorway run), but only when well warmed up! The same car could average below 20, and even without driving like you stole it!

Since I fitted an open air flter my 360 (I know that's wasn't the question) is running more and more economical. The last time I filled it up she did 12kilometer on a liter. I haven't got a clue what that is in MPG. (You english, get normal, drive right and get the metric system!javascript:emoticon('

Dunno about the vario as mine have all been 5-speeds. The 1.4 gave 50mpg on the motorway, the 1.7 less (40-45). Both returned about 35 around town.

Japper...you'll probably find that the reason for that is that the carb is now running lean. Sometimes (if you're lucky) it just runs lean enough to improve your economy (how those ecotec valves work), but you can find that it makes the car stumble and hesistant.
