Mk2, mk2 taillights

Post by deleted »

Probally a bit ofa silly question, but i couldnt find any definate answers.

Can mk2 taillights fit mk1 cars??

If they feature a different arrangement, but fit in the slot, could you just connect the wires up differently ??

or not interchangeable at all

im trying to sell some on ebay :)

thanks

Everything fits in everything if you make them to fit
I think those mk.2 lights will fit in mk.1 cars but i´m not 100% sure
Maybe someone clever than me can tell?!?

Mk2 cars have the same taillights as Mk1's. Mk3's have different taillights but they will also fit Mk2 or Mk1 models. Fitting Mk2 taillights on a Mk3 is also possible but not much of an option because you will loose the license plate lights. If you can make some yourself on the bumper it will work.

both types of taillight units fit both MK1 AND MK2 AND MK3.

MK1 + MK2 = old type taillights. MK3 = newer type.

the connections are almost identical, the mountings are fully identical.

the taillight on the ebay ad is a MKIII, fitted 1984-1991

the old version does NOT have a vertical division of the lenses, but a simpler, horizontal division.

All 1984 models had Mk2 lights. The change came in 1985.
