New engine plans

Post by Carl »

Since I seemed to have acquired myself a K cam I'm thinking about what to do. I'm guessing the cam in a B230 engine probably isnt going to work too well with the 360's injection system. So what are my options?

Megasquirt I guess, but I have no idea about setting up fueling, plus its fairly pricey.

Use the loom/ECU from a 940? How hard is this going to be to wire up? Is the loom connected into anything apart from the engine?

I read on here something about using a dizzy from an early 240 to get rid of renix. What's actually involved in that?

Any other possibilities?

I was hoping to keep this upgrade fairly simple, but it doesnt look like it's going to be any more!!

Cheers

To fit the 240 dizzy you need to use a intermidiate cam off a 240 or 360 for the cam drive. you can then bolt on the 240 dizzy.

Oh all is ok fot the week end you suggested.

Programmable EMS is really the only way to go if you're making a true frankenstein of an engine. Andy (pettaw) can probably tell you all about fitting MS to a 300. As far as I was aware it should cost £150-300 to get MS installed and running, but bear in mind the hidden costs, like dyno time (£150+), or a wideband lambda sensor (£125+), etc.

cheers

I think thats the route I'm going to take. I'll see what cash I've got first, but hopefully get the engine in and running first, then later in the spring put in the k cam and convert to megasquirt!!

You'd probably find that LH2.4 would work with the K cam, and LE-Jet might even...but I suspect it'd be a bridge too far. Having said that, programmable is the way forward, so I'll not talk you out of it :)

Hi Carl.

I did a engine swap last summer - from my stock B200E to a B230.
I did a complete overhaul on the B230 myself.
I installed the B230 in my 360 and used the stock LE-jetronic in the start.... BIG MISTAKE... It caused me many troubles..
That's why I changed over to MS.
I build it myself and it is really great. I think that I have spend a little over 250£ in total (including a LC-1 WB-O2 controller).
Here is a link to a fuel-map for my B230. http://volvo300.dk/Filer/ver%202.0.2.zip
Have i mind that this map is not the exact map for youe B230 engine, but it will be start....
I used the injectors from my B200E engine (0 280 150 734).

I hope that you can use some of all this.... just pm me if you have any MS questions.

Regards.
Peter

Damn, I was hoping I could at least get it running with the B230 and LE-jetronic bits.

Definately cant afford getting MS at the moment :( Reckon I'm gonna have to try and get hold of an LH2.4 ECU and loom from a 700/900 on the cheap for now!

Cheers for the advice though. I may have to ask you a few questions if I ever get round to buying the MS bits.

Feel free to enquire about the ECU and loom and any other related gubbins I may need :)
