hahahahaaa, got one!

Post by astraboy »

Looked for about a month for a 1.7L 3-door and picked up this today.

Bought this today.

55k on the clock, one previous owner, MINT bodywork and mine for 250 quid 8)

I'm getting suspension mods for 100 quid and the diff welded, then its playtime

i was pleased to note that the 20 quid I used to put some petrol in the car nearly filled it up!
Even better it hardly moved for the entire trip home!
On the downside though, neither did the mileometer
On the whole, its a nice car though:)

Nice work, that looks like a pretty clean example! With some decent rims, it'll look good in no time :)

Looks smashing :D

It costs me about £35 to fill up an almost-empty 340 1.7, then I'll get anything from 200 - 350 miles from it.

Looks tight!

FYI, you can get 15" steels which are sure to fit from a 400 series with 15" alloys, where it has a steel spare. Just gotta find 4 of them :-D

There's a technique for fixing the mileometer, if you're interested.

cheers

I don't see the problem as long as he doesn't trash the bodywork. There are loads of complete sets of oily bits crushed every week because no-one wants them - if he wants to put it back to standard one day.

Although I'm not a fan of people drifting, and possibly damaging these cars, too many are scrapped for no reason, and so getting more people interested in them, means more are saved and we can keep them popular.

Anyway, as nice as it would be to wrap them all up in cotton wool and store them, we wouldn't get the fun of driving them, and they'd seize up.

Also we can't do anything about it ;) So I say lets support the drifters and encourage them to look after their cars :)

Anyway, that's a nice car there, and I'm sure steels will set it off. What colour are you going for, white, black? Anyway make her look great and look after her, then she'll look after you :)

I'm just old fart then

Sure it is good that car get some use instead of scrapping if that would be an alternative, but if not then there is certainly more suitable ones for drift car, of course they might be bit beaten up and more rusty, but I feel that if car is about to be used for sports where it can and most likely will get some damage it would be wise to use not so good shape car for such activity.

I guess this is what antiekeradio's point was also?

But MJ is right too :P

I may start getting to be bit like pussihousu or just old :D (sorry, no translation known, old fart that thinks that installing modern radio to old car is practically same as destroying it, they have funny very old fashion pants too :P)

To be fair Jani, it's not like Astraboy's car is exceptionally rare or anything. It's a nice clean and tidy one, but I'm sure you could find a number of similar cars within a matter of weeks if you wanted to, and I'm sure many will get scrapped because no-one wants them. If he'd just found a 363CS and was going to use it for banger racing, I could see your point sm56

Another way of looking at it is as follows...
As far as I'm away, Bilbo and Sven360 started out with their GroupA prepared 360, and they now have 3...maybe 4, with both having daily driven 1983/4 GLTs, plus "Dave"s 1986/7 3dr GLT.

300s are addictive - I'm seriously considering keeping Nessy once I get my mk1.

cheers

I know where you guys are coming from (Jani and Wouter) but over here there are loads of nice (not mint, thats often a trick of the camera ;)) 300s, and so many do get scrapped that it's good to see people using them.

I think we should be shouting at the guys who use mint amazons in historic rallies, I've seen a few roll... but then again, they look mint at the next event, so could just be not looking up close.

Hell yes... I'm hankering over a mk1 or mk2 3 door at the moment - but not 'til the saloon is in a state where things stop wearing out, and I have more space...
