Howdy! Welcome to the forum. I think you'll find this to be a friendly and helpful place to loiter!

Is your car a 1.4 or a 1.7? Are you looking to tinker with it, or just use it as a runaround? Either way, you'll find there's plenty of info out there!

cheers

A few things I've found to be important when it comes to 300s and drag racing...
Soft rear end for squat
Wiiiide tyres....or there's no advantage of RWD at the Pod
Short gears

Narrow tyres, tall gears, and 140bhp / 1150kg netted me a 17.0 @ 81 with around a 3s 60' (note the ET/trap imbalance). Not impressed. Going back for more with a better set up car and some more power. I'm aiming for a high 15, then we drop the turbo lump in.

cheers

......and badly setup engine :)

I was much faster than you on a drag and I've got 25 less bhp. If you set that engine up properly, even with your existing driveline you're most likely gonna shave about a second off that time.

Last time I checked, you don't drag race from idle :-P

It was affecting it marginally in the big "hole" between 2nd and 3rd (i.e. when it dropped out of the powerband for a few moments), but I actually think the attrocious tuning (no debate about it....I must get it done!) didn't actually have that much to do with it. I've based this on watching what's quick, and what's not (in terms of similar cars).

My plan was for lots of power, not much weight and slicks lol.

Got my clio down from a 15.5 to a 14.8 just by stripping it.

Hoping with a mildly tuned T5 engine to hit high 12s/low 13s

I'm picking up my T5 motor tomorrow...:D

If you're planning on fitting one, do yourself a favour and swap in a 360 drivetrain - bellhousing adaptors are then available off the shelf.

Bear in mind that if you spend the time needed to fit a T5 lump on tuning a B230 turbo (from a 740/760/940....which pretty much drops right in), you'll probably go just as fast...but it won't sound as good! Depends on whether you want an easy build, or the kudos of having a T5 lump. The T5 is limited to about 330bhp unless you put a set of rods in it (whereas a late B230 is good to ~400), however it's easier to get to 330bhp than the B230....if that makes sense!

In other words, the B230 is easier to fit, has a stronger bottom end, but you have to do a fair bit of work to free the power up.
The T5 lump is harder to fit (although far from impossible!), will make more power with 'bolt ons', but if you want more than around 330bhp, it starts to get expensive. Swings and roundabouts, in a way.

Very true, but I was in second from idle and you were in first revving up, and I still beat you :D

Your car should be waaay faster than mine if it was working properly :P

Hi Matt

Do you still like you're study? I "almost" completed a bachelor in holland and thinking about moving to the uk for a university study. And because my interrest in motorsport maybe this is something for me.
I also want to improve my english.

I fulfil a administration function in a student rallyteam, and I am responsible for the engine of our Ford Puma S1600. At the moment I am doing a revision to the cilinderhead. (we got some problems last rally)

A little pic.

I don't really remember how the first run went. The second was floored in 1st...and famously ended in tears :) I have a feeling I started in 2nd in the first run, dropped it into first on realising I was gonna get whooped, but the battle was already well lost by then!

On the second run, by the time I was up near redline, I was closing in fairly fast, but it was barely noticeable on the camera, as you'd pulled so far ahead when I was in the depths of my "bog".

I leaned the mixture screws right out for the MOT to pass the emissions test (which worked). Interestingly, it idled like crap, but the response at 70 in 5th was waaaay better. I have a date with my emusion tubes :)

cheers
