Power upgrade on Ebay
Power upgrade on Ebay
Just found this on Ebay. Basically, it's a kit comprising of a resistor that you put between a sensor and the ecu, and it gives a power boost.

Has anyone tried this? If so, does it work and will it kill the volvo?
Theoretically, if it's just a resistor, put in series with existing circuitry, you could do it yourself if you knew what resistance and which wires to put it in. Anyone got any ideas?
Thanks in anticipation
Colin

as far as i know, all it could possably do is fuck around with the mixture a bit, which may well add a tiny bit of power, but i strongly doubt it'd do anything remotely good for your fuel economy

I'm with 5lab on this. It would be something to alter the mixture, i dont think the ignition is advancable. Personally i dont like the sound of piggybacking the ECU, i'm a bit of a neat freak, and pigs arent the neatest of critters. I'd be more likely to go with a standalone ECU that you can play around with and actually know what your changing and by how much. If it works its cheap power, just not my thing.

HAHAHA! I literally just came in here to post a big WARNING about that advert.
First off, it'll do NOTHING to anything other than a B200E 360. The only sensor it could replace on any other 300 is the crank angle sensor, and removing that'll stop your car starting!
Secondly, these things are a hugh menace to the EFI tuning market. What these people are suggesting you do is replace a £200 precision sensor with a 5p fixed value resistor. The shocking thing is that (no offence Riverflow) there are bloody idiots who actually buy these things!!
The usual trick is (especially with turbo cars) to replace the IAT (intake air temp) sender, which makes the car increase boost levels in hotter weather (a typical turbo car can run about 3-4psi more boost on a cold day than in the height of summer). However, that's there for a reason, as without this protection, detonation will set in, and you'll have a set of melted within a few seconds.
I've emailed the seller demanding an explaination, because the inclusion of a '340' there is effectively fraudulant - never mind the fact that all the other cars listed there will not gain from this modification. I'd report the seller to ebay, except ebay are too bloody useless to do a thing about it!!
cheers
James

Still no reply from the seller. I may well report it to ebay, just for a laugh.
