Easy gangstars!

Post by mattyboi »

Just a quick post to introduce myself! Wasn`t gonna sign up because last time i did i got shouted at for ruining a nice car, turns out E21 bimmer owners dont like them being drifted! hahaha! My girlfriend (Loz)said you were a nice bunch so i thought i`d join up to!

I`m matt (aka the boi) from the fenland kingdom of cambridgeshire! 24 yrs old, spent five years in the army (engineers) and i`m off to uni in derby to study motorsport engineering! Can`t wait!

I`m heavly into drifting. Just sold my well spec`d S13 and dailly driver E21 BMW to build my 340. Needed something reliable for uni and now i`m hooked!!! They freakin rock!! I`ve done a few comps and done ok, i came fourth at trampdrift 1000 and just missed out on top 16 at SVA challenge cup

Anyways, nice to meet you all and here is the beast!

these drift 300's just keep getting better and better,

the bike carbs on the clio lump really work well and to think youv'e done all this (or had it done , dosen't matter which ) without anyone but the pimp boys knowing is incredible ,

Its a shame you didnt come out of the closet sooner ( LOL ) or you could have joined Adam and Bennet in the magazine article your car is certainly woirthy of it .

well done sm11 sm11 sm11

I have seen this car before (Driftworks) Nice one :D I'm in love with those Rims!
What are you going to do with those arches? Do like Stav and use Escort mk2 widened arches?

How well does it drift on dry asphalt? Can u do it in 3 gear?

Welcome! The car looks great, and I bet it shifts :) Do you have any drift footage of it?

Just to be clear about how we (or at least some of us) feel about drifters...because I'm quite sure we have a bit of a reputation in some corners...here's the deal as far as I'm concerned. Many of us enjoy tinkering with our cars (mine has a set of Solex's versions of Weber DCOE 40s, for example, and a turbo swap is planned for...soon ;)), and I suspect even more like to make use of the RWD goodness as often as possible. On that basis, we welcome drifters with open arms (in a sort of manly beer and power tools sort of way...not in the Dekay pink-car sense :D).

What isn't so welcome is the 'banger drifting' scene where (often the tidiest of) cars are bought and trashed just because they happen to be cheap & RWD. It doesn't happen much...but it does happen a bit too much :( Love the car, love the drifting, and you'll fit right in.

cheers

Since Foggy has laid it down from 'on high' :P can I just add that drifting on public roads is a bad idea. Glad to see though that you weren't doing that in your videos :)

It looks like its gonna be a great project, once you get those arches sorted.

Archs aren`t getting done on this car, this ones finished as a dailly driver/dailly drifter.

I`ve got 5K to spend on a new project and aren`t sure what to spend it on. As i`m going to uni i can do a bare shel rebuild on something and make it to the highest spec for not much cash really as i have all the tools etc at my disposal.

So the options are.........

1) Mega 340 build. Striped shell, seam weld, cage, buckets, custom dash with stack instruments, Six link rear end, custom front suspention with escort quick rack, coilovers all round, 182 clio engine with busa throttle bodies and cams (220bhp or just over), vems management, body kitted (archs and lips nothing ghey!!!) and a few other trick bits like fuel system and hydro wand etc.

2) S14. basic engine, mega suspention.

Now it seams like an easy choice really, the 340 should win easy because of the build BUT i borrowed a friends S13 yesterday to do some drift demo`s at pods jap show. Its runing a boggo engine with 7psi boost, so well below standard power but it has every suspention arm and bush etc replaced and it was AWESOME!! easy to drift so an easy choice for comps etc.

I`m not sure what to choose really :(

Its drifts fine in the dry and in thrid BUT you have to use the standard steel rims and crap tyres because of the shit 340 prop. I`m getting a steel on with flanges rather than ruber inserts because i keep killing props. I`m on number four now!!!!!

Sounds like a plan :D Do you reckon its the abuse that kills the props or the extra power? I guess perhaps a combination of both, but drifting seems to be relatively hard on the cars.

Incidentally, I graduated from Derby a couple of years ago. I was doing the 'sound, light & live event technology' degree, so just across the corridor from the motorsport engineering chaps.
