Hi well im thinking of starting a volvo project involving the swap of a CA18DET engine and running gear into either a 360 or 340.

My question is how where your insurance companies when you informed them of the engine swap and what companies do you use. Id like to get an idea of the cost before I make a go ahead.

Cant help with the insurance, but any reason why you want to put a nissan engine in? - it is very easy to make big power relatively cheaply with a turbo redblock engine, and they drop straight in. (plus insurance will possibly like that more)

Just may be able to get one very cheaply with loom and everything.
If it will be better for insurance then redblock could be the way forward and it keeps it in the volvo family :)

Yes its from the Nissan 180/200SX , engine ,gearbox ,diff.

Not sure as to why you'd want to use a CA18DET... a turbo redblock engine can be had cheaply and is just as tunable and doesn't have fragile big ends like the Nissan lump. The 300 series uses a transaxle at the rear of the car so mating up the gearbox and drivetrain from the Nissan may prove tricky.

It depends hugely on exactly who you are, what you're doing, and who your insurance company is. It will typically range from zero increase to double the 'standard' price.

The more 'factory' what you're doing is, the better, generally.

Indeed, if you can just say you've got a 360 but its turbocharged then its a lot easier than saying you've done an engine swap. If your going to all that bother of fabricating a new transmission tunnel, etc why oh why put a CA in there, coming from an SR owner, let the debate begin haha, but seriously, if your doing so much fab work you could drop in something with more cylinders or something

my thoughts exactly! - if you just want power then stick in a b230et or similar as that will give you plenty enough to begin with. If you are going with a mega build then I would think long and hard about long term goals.
