Tyres.
As above.
Know very little about them and i recon its time to learn.
14in 7j wheels rims need some black rubber banding for to go round the outside and i think these are scientificly known as
'some tyres' - but my knowledge ends there.
So there numbers involved. Rim size, width, both of which i think my feeble brain-head can comprehend. Then theres a speed rating which sounds a bit dramatic, but is imaterial as i only drive at thirty eight mph. Flat out.
Then theres the other number that seems to refer to some new and mystical dimension hithertoo unbeknownst to me.
Is that like, the profile?
How much black touches the tar-mcadam?
Little help here please.
I want some reasonable brand of tyre with a reasonably low profile for above stated rim size. That look cool. For near to a ton. For four. Or cheaper.
What say you gentlemen?

Re: Tyres.
Ok as far i understand but im guessing someone will be along to correct me, the tyres will be in the form of 195 65 15, the 195 is the width of the tread and the 65 is the profile height as a percentage of, i think, the wheel width but im not sure and the final number is the radius of the wheel the tyre is being fitted, but i stand by to be corrected lol.

Re: Tyres.
My understanding:
195/50 R15
195mm wide, profile 50% of 195mm width, 15"radius.
Speed ratings are letter codes for how fast the tyre can spin before it blows to pieces and kills everyone.
As for sizing, there was a handy circumference calculator somewhere that told you what tyre size you need to keep your speedo honest. I'll have a look for it.

Re: Tyres.
I seen em already! If they end up bought that is. Still not sure whether the profile is a percentage of the width or the diameter though. Might get a tape measure out and see.

Re: Tyres.
7's will need 195 min prob 205 better.
Try and get lacka band ones to get as close as possible to circumfrance of originals. For 100 will be used.
Do not drive uphill into a head wind.Your 1400 will simply explode.
Big wheels/tyres and little engines do not mix.Sorry and all that but tis the truth.

Re: Tyres.
Profile is in relation to width.
Std tyre is 80 profile ie 155x13 155mm width sidewall is 80% of width ie 132mm
lower profile is smaller circumfrance.
155x13 overall height approx 22inch
205/45 14 would if my maths are correct be somewhere close.
Work it out yourself. My head hurts.

Re: Tyres.
Summit like a 346xp-think I'll have to sell a lot of Volvo spares 1st
If you only want to spend a ton try Backworth normally get them for 20 a pop.Take your time hunting thru and you'll get good branded stuff.
Some folk on here will come banging on about using 2nd hand tyres but what the hell every time I buy a car it has 2nd hand tyres to me. I dunno what the previous owner did and honestly don't care-buy it take over Bellasis bridge see how high it'll fly and then thrash it round the back of Saltwick.
Never had a tyre let fly, yet.
Done that for 20yr without a hitch.
One thing tho' remember ya spigot rings

Re: Tyres.
My 15x7's have 195's on, and are *just* slightly this shape /\ on the rim, not much at all though.
Compared to the 175s the steering is a fair amount heavier parking, so I'd be dubious of going too much wider on the front.

Re: Tyres.
What with VnD's beeing slammed an all-catching the arches on lock may be an issue.
My Jeep has 7's and runs 225 as stock fitment.
You're too narrow Chris
Watch you don't roll a tyre before you're polybushed to the hilt
General rule of thumb 6" 185-195,7" 205-235 8" geet big massive
Anyhows-wood is good, been logging so I'm happy you lot do what you want

Re: Tyres.
Buuuuuuh. After all that, Just noticed my potentials are 6J, not 7.
Arch rubbing sounds a bit todd like.
So, if I want a size of wheel/tyre combo that A) isnt going to foul the arches, B) Will allow me up a hill in a head on gale C) will not look the G word, what do you genius's (or genie'i) suggest?
Before I start spending money.........................
Stay with me on this one, I think we're almost there!
And cheers again.
Youve all been great help, again.
