carb promblems still

i have had a look at my carb and it looks like there is a loose wire on the idle solenoid. there are two wires on my solenoid, one of them is a long wire which looks like it goes right place, the other is a shorter wire that isnt connected to anything and has a metal thing on the end of the wire so would assume it must join onto something. my car is a 1989 volvo 340 1.7. anyone have any ideas were this should go?. thanks for your help. tom

Did 1.7 had thermistor at base of carb to heat up idle passage? At least wire could be for that, it is so in 360 at least.

what colour are the wires?

Late 1.7's have an electric preheater, early's have a water preheater. I'd imagine you have a blue with red strip going to the solanoid, with a second wire daisy chained from it? This should go to the preheater.
