Hello and welcome

340 come in 1.4 and 1.7 flavour.

360 is 2ltr in either carb or injection

The 340's have a Renault derived engine so if in the future you want to do the 16v swap get one of these, preferably a 1.7 as it has all the parts you need, or get a 1.4 and go parts hunting.

The 3 and 5drs are the same wheel base, but saloons are longer so possibly better for drifting, but also rarer.
Oh and if you are going to drift it please don't use a minter as they are getting hard to find as it is!

I've never driven or been in a 360 so not sure what they are like power or quickness wise, but i'm sure someone will come along and inform you.

Watch for rust as they are old now, but that said they are pretty well built old tanks. Just check anything you'd look at on any prospective car purchase really, burning oil, rust, mechanical condition yada yada.

Looked in the Offers section yet? :D

Whats the matter with the car i'm driving can't you tell that it's out of style?

Carb 360's depending on age feel a nadgers slower that 1.7's, but there isn't much between them time wise. The revvy nature of the 1.7 makes it easier to balance through corners if thats what you want.

Injection GLT's when they are working (whatever you buy is likely to be broken in some way) are very quick, I've stripped the injection side of mine off completely in the last month, injectors cleaned, flappy paddle potentiometer etc all cleaned. It's now a lot quicker than my 1.7 in a straight line, but again it's a lot harder to rev match for corners with the flipping great flywheel. It does at least have the advantage of a very nice cam for a stock car, the GLT's power really does kick in from mid 2k, mine feels gutless before that (cam back a tooth on the belt gives the reverse). The 1.7 is also a temperamental beast, it's certainly the most likely to be not working or to break on you.

If you don't want to be a rally driving hero, GLT's win... if you want a car that you can push just that bit further I still prefer 1.7's.

More importantly, I'm interested what sort of hard driving you are wanting from a drift car  Every drift 300 I've seen is the furthest thing to something I'd want to push hard!

Hard driving needs a different set up to drifting. Hard driving you want to stick to the road like shit to a blanket, drifting you want to kick the rear end out. Apologies for stating the obvious, but if you take a drift spec 300 and try some spirited fast road, you're likely to oversteer off.

For hard driving I'd definitely go for a 360GLT - a Mk2 with a B19E engine in it if possible but you may have a hard time finding one. You can always swap in a 2.3 turbo motor later if you have the right combination of mechanical aptitude, funds and motivation.

For drifting get a 340 - a drifter will be along shortly to advise you whether to go for the 1.4 or 1.7. Swap in a valver later if you're serious like so many people on here have done.
