hey,
have been looking into what engine to put in my 340,
tbh i dont want to go for a 16v.
so was just going to go for a b20.
then i heard about the 1.7 turbo's from the 440's and the 480's
any put one in a 340?

Re: 440/480 turbo conversion
Doable, there are several videos of Husky's around. There are a couple more around too (I can think of 3 more I've seen project threads or for sale in the UK) Mine still isnt finished as I'm trying to do it as close to how Volvo would have done, rather than just fab up bits...

Re: 440/480 turbo conversion
i put the 440 engine in my car, it'll suprise you how easy it is, just a day or twos work. biggest problem was the exhaust manifold. ive looked at these pics and it looks like the car has got a really good one on, i'm a cheap skate so i just cut the flange of the original and had it welded on the other way up so the turbo sat at the front of the engine. the loom strips to 3 or 4 positives one for the fuel pump. i used a wagonR tank with a pump the right presure in it, fiddle with the filler but the rest worked. exhaust and boost tubes ratched out of the scrap yard. i used a 440 rad so there was room to run the intercooler pipes either side so the intercooler sat right out front, i used the car for dilivering pizzas and i hadnt even connected the fan, it never over heated! going back to college at 30 = shit jobs to pay for the cars. dont forget your spigot bearing, like i did
The most important bit to remember so your car dosent end up scrapped like mine, heat shields!!! round the brake master cylinder, starter, oil return anything the exhaust runs near. if you talk to the renault 5 people this engine can give you nearly 200bhp, you can send the ecu away and the guy does something to trick it into letting it boost past 9psi, you need a bigger turbo, injectors and there's some other things to do, a friend with this engine in his gt turbo knows what, i only really know half the crack at the moment but, ive got myself a new 340 salvaged most of my engine found a replacment ecu, just short of a couple of bits so soon i'll be rebuilding and going for more psi.
