Life without electricity in 2010?
Life without electricity in 2010?
Can anyone imagine what it would be if all of sudden electric companies would stop delivering electricity?
First of course lights would be out, computers not working, but pretty soon there would be no water coming from faucet as pumps of watercompany would not be able to run. Then on way to shop one would notice that shops would not be able to sell anything as cash registers would not work, while going back to home fuel station can't give any petrol, after long walk and finally at home, fridge would be all warm and freezer melt, cell phones would not work as battery backup lasts only few hours at transmitter stations.
In big city, one would last only few days without some external help, drinking water would be first to cause some problems.
Oh why I write this? Well, I have had some serious issues with electrics lately, some 10 black outs in last 24 hours, currently has been over 30mins without power. I have battery backup so good for few hours, but that is not much, also I have water supply, just grab snow to glass and put it over oil lamp I have sitting there and creating some additional illumination as it starts to get rather dark indoors already at this hour.

Bit bad photos as light was low when I took them, first one shows how trees are bending, in second there is powerline at right side of road, running inside of trees, all powerlines are suffering from same, even high voltage ones.

Re: Life without electricity in 2010?
Do you think this might have any effect to power delivery?

Oh yes, those are fresh moose tracks at front of car, at least I think those are moose tracks as there are not many animals walking like that on snow in here
It is small moose I think, should have taken photo from how it looks close up.

I think those dangly wires should be going somewhere else dude..........................
Re: Life without electricity in 2010?
So if I grab them and connect them with a knot to ones I saw at ground near that place it should be ok? Does not probably require repairing of snapped power pole near there or cutting few of those trees that have felled over those lines nearbyvolvosneverdie wrote:I think those dangly wires should be going somewhere else dude..........................
I try to get some better pics tomorrow when there is more light, but it looks like that whole powerline infrastructure has got serious hit and there will be lot of snow coming at end of week, which will destroy probably rest of lines.
Situation does not look too good, imo. Probably means my electric bill price will skyrocket soon.

water conducts electricity quite well.jtbo wrote: So if I grab them and connect them with a knot to ones I saw at ground near that place it should be ok? Does not probably require repairing of snapped power pole near there or cutting few of those trees that have felled over those lines nearby![]()
.
stick one end into the snow there, and then stick a wire from your house into some snow too.
scientifically, that SHOULD work.

But does snow conduct electricity like water does? It is, afterall, snow, snow is solid particles of ice and does ice conduct electricity well?volvosneverdie wrote: water conducts electricity quite well.

Well, I did mail photos to electric company, don't know if they do anything about it.

Re: Life without electricity in 2010?
how ever if you look at super cooled ceramics it would conduct better than water!
so throw in a few old sinks, plates etc and should work better!

Ice loading pings the wires.
Few yrs back when I was working for the telecom we were up Ingram valley way where an o/h line came down due to ice.
Toff comes over moaning about no phone for 24hrs.Explained ice loading situation.
"Ice,ice!!! I don't think so." he says indignantly.
Well I says it sank the titanic.
Conversation ends he wanders off muttering under his breath. I continue to replace O/h cable.
