headlight wipers

Post by 340 Nate »

hi all again, just a quick question, is the drivers side headlight wiper supposed to stick out by like 3-4 cm? because i looked at the passenger side headlight afterwards and it sits very close to the headlight unit compared to the other one apart from that its wiper is stuck half way up but both wipers are still useable, just looks odd.

cheers

Hi nate.
Just been and had a look at mine, they are the same each side. I'm not sure which bit you mean sticks out? Do you mean just the black wiper arm (mine are both sprung to press onto the lens) or do you mean the shiny metal shaft which the arm rotates on sticks out one side further than the other? mine stick out about 1cm on both lights.
Either way mine are pretty much symmetrical, and I'm not an expert in this field but I'd guess that's how they were designed.
Is it possible there's been some sort of accident damage, possibly by a previous owner, which has pushed the wiper motor slightly? Like I said, I'm no expert, just guessing.

By the way I see you are also from cambs, is your car dark blue? I pass a dark blue mk3 no the A505 most mornings on the way to work. Probably not the only 2 300s in the whole of cambs though, so thinking about it chances are slim!!

One of mine is out of adjustment, but I'm sure they're ment to be level, Hanes agrees. You should be able to flip the cap, remove the nut and adjust them, but I tried and couldn't get it to come off/rotate so left it alone.

hi mate, yeah its the bit which the wiper rotates on which sticks out like 3-4 cm, and the passenger side wiper arm is at a wierd angle but will try and remove bolt to adjust it.
i think mines a mk 2, not sure really, most likely was not me because ive got the car off the road for a while to add, remove and fix bits and bobs  , i will get pictures of my car and progress when ive got the motivation  .

I duno where to say get mesh from but I definately wouldn't go to a car tuning place for it unless you're made of money and don't mind payin for it, mine came from Wickes for £7 for about 2m x 1m of the stuff although it is a bit too open, then just paint it black with a pot of hammerite
cheers

I'd go to B&Q in the first instance. This 'barry boy' shop will charge you a fortune for the same item - because they assume they're going to be selling to mindless barries  Not to stir up a stereotype or anything....

Just loosen the nut and waggle to alter the angle! They tend to get stuck (to the stalk) over time.

cheers
