Rotted window regulator guide

Post by mac »

Afternoon all,

Earlier this month I posted a wanted "ad" for a window channel - the bit that sits on the bottom of the door window and upon which the regulator operated.

Thanks for your suggestions Tom and Adam but no luck. Several troubled nights with the little devil on my shoulder wispering "go on , you know you want to, go on, make one!, how hard can it be ?!!

Here's how !!!

The old channel was totally screwed.

Image

Startpoint was to measure an unrusted bit of the old one - hummm 18g - got a sheet of that somewhere.

Some layout work, some nibbling, and folding began.

Image

The clamps, the clamps.

Image

Coffee, a good scream, more coffee and the channel took shape.

Next, impress the track for the regulator wheel to run in.

Image

Voila!!

Now just form the lower guide.

A dab of paint - and :---------------------------------------------------------

Now - that rubber moulding that fits between the window and the guide, how hard can it be ?? It all starts with a tree leaking latex - hummmmm.

Mac.

Looks good mac! I envy your tooling skills :-)

I remember our old 343 had rusted window guides, about 6 months before we scrapped the car. It would no longer grip the lower part of the glass - if you tried to wind down the window there'd be a big "clank" and the guide would loosen its hold on the lower edge of the window. For a while we had a kitchen suction hook thing on the inside of the window, so you could move the window handle and gently edge the window down at the same time ;-)
